Q: how to get kittens to use litter pan
I have always had at least one cat. I now have 4 due to two strays showing up and my adult cats did not mind sooooooo...now they are family. One kitten uses the litter pan without fail. The smaller kitten would rather go on a rug or piece of clothing that is on the floor. When I catch her doing this I pick her up and place her in the pan. She will finish but continues to prefer not to use the pan.
My two adult cats don't have a pan. They come in and let us know when they need to go out (like a dog). I got rid of their pan years ago. So it is only the kittens using it. I do not have a place to put a second litter pan. Please help! I need advice.

I recently took in a kiten that was wandering around outside and I taught her how to use the litter pan kind of like a dog. I kennel trained her. I had a cat carrier and she waas small enough that I could fit a small tin baking pan, a water dish, and a blanket in with her. So I put litter in there and left her in it if I was gone to work or over night. She started using it and kept the habit after i started leaving her out while I was gone.

I usually put the kitten in the box as soon as they awake in the morning or from a nap and especially after they eat. I move their paws back & forth in the litter so they will understand the digging motion. In fact, I am training 6 kittens now (5 weeks old) and after 2 days, I noticed one went to the box and urinated all by herself today. It truly is a natutal instinct for them. Just have to show them the box.
