How much free time in the house

I have a 5 month old female yorkie. I am still trying to housetrain her but she still has mistakes during the day if I am not watching her. I take her out after she eats, sleeps or plays and she goes to potty and I give her a treat. I let her run the house during the day while I am doing other things and I don't always know where she is. Should I confine her to her kennel except for when I can watch her specifically? She doesn't like her kennel and will bark if she knows I am in the house. She sleeps in the kennel all night but wakes me up around 5am each morning. I take her out to potty, give her a treat then put her back in the kennel until 6am when my husband gets up and he lets her out to potty again and turns her loose in the house until I get up. Also, I am trying to get her used to grooming but she doesn't like that either. She bites at my hand and the brush.

Have you tired crate training? Of course you start out with a very small crate and put her in it when you are not around to keep an eye on her keep her in it and let the crate get bigger and bigger. If not that try taking her outside every hour or every 30 minutes even to prevent accedents. My grandma had to take her miniture poodle out every half hour to an hour when she was potty training her.

also it will take her awhile to get used to being groomed it took my grandma's poodle almost 4 months before she was used to it and would not try any thing to get out of it.

When I was crate training my dog, she was in the crate unless I could keep an eye on her. Thate being said, I also spent a lot of time watching my puppy. Your puppy is still young so she will need to go out often; the rule I have been told is their age in months plus one. That would mean your puppy should be able to go 6 hours; I did not tend to wait that long and would still take her out every 4-5 hours at least along with going out after meals as you have been doing. If she has toys or treats that she likes, let her have these in the crate. I would keep the times she is in the crate short (except at night or if she is crated for you to go to work).. A lot of dogs will come to see the crate as a den and will start going in there even when they are not told to (mine didin't do this, but I have seen a lot that have). As for the grooming, you will have to handle your puppy a lot so she gets used to it.
