Q: How many states have laws preventing dogs from riding without restraint in the back of pick up truck

I'd really like to know which states, if there are any, have a law that prevents dogs from riding in the back of trucks without any restraint. I can't stand seeing it in Kentucky.

I just saw a man a couple of days ago driving with 2 dogs in the back of the truck...one was down in the bed of the truck, the other was standing on a tool box. If the guy would have hit his break for any reason the dog would have gone flying out. It is so upsetting to me to see this carelessness....if they can't ride in the vehicle safely then they should not be in the vehicle!

Unfortunately while many States have these laws, very few actually enforce them. We have a law here in Florida, but while traveling in the north Florida area it is very common to not just see unrestrained dogs in the back of pick-ups, but often see them riding on top of the tool box leaning against the rear cab window

Hi there..I am in NJ and some people do ride around in the back of their trucks with animals but it is not safe and not smart however the law I am not sure - have to look it up but I think it really depends on the town ordinance. Would you carry a child in the back of your truck?
