If so, why not secure them or put them in a crate? Also, how many permit their dogs to stick their heads out the window when driving?

I am sad to say that my dogs are not secure in the car.I have read many articles saying why you should you secure your dog and I am convenced! I let my dog Lola stick her head out but I hold onto her when she does. I am planning on getting doggie seatbelts for Lilly and Lola because I want them to be safe plus I think they are planning on making a law about it anyway!

My Sheltie loves to travel. I keep her loose in my SUV. Iput her dog bed in the back, and she sleeps most of the time. I feel that as long as dog his confortable with the situation, they won't be a problem.

I have three beagles and they love to go for rides. They behave well in the car and usually just sit or lay down in the back seat. Sometimes Molly will try to get up front but they never cause any problems.

I have 2 labs and they are always good about traveling. They lay down most of the ride. When they need fresh air they know to just go to the window. Never have your dog travel in the front seat. I know someone that lost their dog by making a quick stop and the dog flew forward and broke it's neck.

We usually put down the backseat in my little Toyota hatchback and slide the crate in. I would like to get a seat belt harness for her when she's full grown. We let her sniff with the window down a little, but no putting her head out!

We have two cars. In a small, there is no place for a crate and I keep the dog at the back on a leash if I am alone and the dog is wearing a muzzle if with my daughter. If there is some serious driving, we take a station wagon (VW Passat) and the dog is crated. We do it because she is fearful and has displayed displacement biting in the past. She never rides looking out of the open window.

I actually use a seat belt harness for my dog when he rides in my car; it's not only for his safety, but it keeps my car cleaner because he sits/lays on a blanket. For my dog, I wouldn't let him run loose in my car because if he sees something interesting outside and the window is open, he'll go for it.

We use seatbelt harnesses to secure both dogs in the car. Even if a dog lays nicely in the backseat, they should be secured in some way. If an accident were to occur, the dog can become a projectile and end in tragedy. I don't let them put their heads out the windows. I crack the windows so they can sniff the air while sitting in the back seat.
