I am just curious. Some people think dog parks are a wonderful thing. I am one who thinks they are a nightmare and would not go to them. I see so many pictures posted on this site of dogs at dog parks and the headings have to make me wonder. People think a dog is having a good time yet the dog is exhibiting all stress signs. How many of you go to them or have had a bad experience and will never go back?

I was at the one in Echo Lake park one night when a drunk guy came in with a rottie, you could tell the rottie was not friendly, but the guy let him in and we all watched it attack a great dane puppy. Tore its face open. We called the cops and got the pup to the e.r. Physically, the dog is fine, but mentally he's a mess. I will never go to that park again. I have gone to the one in Basking Ridge, but I study it very carefully before I go in. The problem is that too many people do not really know their dogs, or just don't care.

As said in my answer on the repeat question of this...I would not recommend dog parks.

Too many morons bring in their un-trained, aggressive, intact, un-vaccinated dog to dog parks. Its only asking for trouble. That and too many people cannot interpret dog behvior-there is a fine line between rough play and a fight. Also, too many people are too busy chit chatting with everyone else to pay attention to their dog.

If you want to socialize your dog or puppy try a doggy daycare facility or a fun pet training class-at least the dogs there are required to be UTD on shots and free of parasites and kennel cough. They also assess the dog before letting it become a client.

Maybe its just the dog parks in my area that leave me with a bad taste in my mouth about them. I was a at a fun match for my local kennel club at my park which was right near the dog run and I swear there were at LEAST 6 fights in one hour in the large dog area. It was getting so bad one member shouted "DOG PARKS ARE FOR LAZY PEOPLE WHO DONT WANT TO WALK THEIR DOGS!" And you know...she is right to a point.

I would like an idea of privatley renting out a dog run for just your own dogs for a fee that would go into maintaining the park...but no public dog parks for me or my dogs.
