Q: How many of you are buying Christmas presents for your pets?
Do you have a cap on how much you plan to spend? I had read a news article that even in this recession pet owners still plan on spending money for gifts for their pets this holiday season.
Would you consider sending in a monetary donation to your local animal shelter instead of spending as much money on gifts for your pets? It is a tax write-off if the shelter/rescue is a 5013(c) and you itemize your deductions on your tax return.

I'm not buying toys, as my dogs have too many (& Brandy is getting older & not as likely to play lately). I might buy a few treats here & there. I always try to donate what I can to shelters & animal organizations (usually North Shore Animal League gets a Holiday donation from me-last year I donated as a gift for my dad & stepmother, since we had a dog from there & it's such a wonderful organization).

I'm not buying any toys for my cat. I may get a package of treats to put under the tree. My kids like it when the cat gets a present. We have donated to an animal shelter in the past, but usually do it at other times during the year.

i'm getting them cheapie gifts. between my cats, my boyfriends cats, our foster cats, and my dogs i have 10 animals to shop for! a big box of 60 toy mice for the cats and a toy or special treat for my pups and i'm calling it done for under $30. it seems whenever i do spend good money on a gift for any of them, they don't get into it as much as the cheapies anyway.
i was considering buying an extra box or two of mice for a local shelter, and i plan on tossing a few mice into the abandoned house on my boyfriends street for the strays.
