I don't know if there is a time limit for playing. The more you play, the more you will bond with your pet. If your pet is not so interested in approaching you for affection, it's probably time to give them more attention. If you have pets with a lot of energy it's good to play with them as much as you can so they can burn it during the day and sleep at night instead of keep you up. Of course, make sure your pet understands that playtime is over when you say it is, or they could get very spoiled and act up.

I guess you need to feel your pet out and see what he/she likes. Some dogs/cats play a little and need a nap - others seem to want to go go go and don't settle down until they've run a good bit and gotten their play-time energy exhausted. We not only play indoors/out with our dogs - but walk them every night. If they need "more" - we'll toss a ball or sqeaky toy around the room while we're sitting/watching tv. I love play time as much as the dogs - play time=bonding time and you can see the gratitude/love on their faces while we play. Have fun!
