Last night I had to take Sport to the 24 hour emergency vet because his whole nail came off and blood was everywhere. It was the best decision in order to make sure the bleeding stopped. They wrapped his paw in a bandage and told us to keep it on for at least 24 hours at the minimum, but if Sport keeps it on for 3 days that is ideal. The vet numbed the area and sport was in and out in 15 minutes tops. Today Sport woke up limping and is trying to rest. Thankfully he is content with his bandage. After 3 days will this wound still be open or will a nail be growing back so the wound won't be open? I don't want to take the bandage off and let the wound be exposed.

The wound should be healing within three days. You may have a soft scab at that point, but you won't have a nail yet. It will take a month or two for the nail to grow in.
