How do you stop puppies from going outside when they are bored??

My new puppy max was born a outside dog so he thinks that he should be outside all the time, the problem with that is he can crawl out of our fence so whenever he is out he has to be watched, he barks at the door when he wants out and we never know if he has to go potty or he is just bored and wants to be outside..Any ideas on what I can do about this???

I have to agree with Sara. Your best bet is to put in a doggy door and secure the areas he is getting out. Plus he is just a pup and all he knows it outside. Give him time to come around to a new way of life and he may turn into an inside guy!

don't stop him! keep him warm/cool, hydrated, and fed then let him run around to his heart's content! his constant wanting to go outside is just his instincts telling him that he needs and wants to be outside- that's because dogs, and all animals, are outside animals. it's only because of domestication that some animals want to be inside. do what makes him happy, as long as he's safe and healthy, that's your 1st priority as an animal owner.
