Q: How do you remove a broken dew claw?

October 7, 2009 | By Ccole44 | 5 answers | Expired: 1825 days ago

My dog Orion was rough housing with his buddy max yesterday when i noticed some blood spots on my kitchen floor. I checked the dogs just to find out that the dew claw on Orion's front left leg is sticking out almost perpendicular to the leg. It doesn't seem to bother him much but I don't want it to get infected or anything. I have been told that I could remove the claw since thats what the vet would most likely do but I am not sure how to go about that process.

i'd just put antibiotic cream on it and let it heal

You call the Vet, until you get there put some neosporin on it, any time your pets splits a nail that makes it bleed should be seen by a Vet, they can tell f it will be OK or need antibiotics, & you can ask about removal of the dew claws, please don't wait to call an infection can end up being very expensive

when the nail breaks close to the nail bed you should have a vet look at it. if there it's still hanging on, they will have to clip it off {while your dog takes a little nap} and usually they'll give you antibiotics. this happened to my dog and i also used saline solution on it twice a day to keep it clean.
