With an estimate like that the Vet will want to do anesthesia and have them properly scaled and polished just like you would have at the dentist. If they recommended this you should probably do it as it can prevent gum disease and worse. Her breath should be good after they do that and should stay good if you brush her teeth. By the way, that is a reasonable price for a cleaning assuming there wont have to be extractions, the two daytime practices I worked for charged about that, maybe little more.

A dentistry done by a vet (recommended by a vet) is well worth the money. Dental disease can cause serious other problems (like heart disease) if not treated. You'd be very surprised the difference between before a dentistry and after a dentistry....not only will your dog's breath be much better, but her teeth will be clean and free from the yellow/brown gunky tartar build-up.

I also recommend Triple Pet Plaque Off. You put it in the dog's water & it helps to keep the teeth clean & the breath smelling fresher. It's definitely not a cure-all, but a step in the right direction.
