How do you feel about rodeo?

I just watched a video about the Oklahoma State Penitentiary Rodeo - it was appalling and I can't believe they are still allowed to do it. They do a "wild horse race" that is just brutal to watch and a "mad scramble" where there are several wild bulls and broncs in the arena at the same time. It is just amazing to me that they allow these convicts to brutalize animals like this and call it entertainment. I have not been to a rodeo in a while, but I really did'nt think they allowed stuff like this anymore.

Exploitation of animals for amusement. I feel the same way about rodeos as I do about circuses.

I think they can be abusive to animals. The people that are part of rodeos see animals differently then pet owners. The animals are used for their enjoyment and sport. Where as a pet owner see their animal as part of their family.

Once thought a rodeo was a good old-fashioned event...not anymore. Various rodeo associations are pro-horse slaughter. Not an event for me anymore.

I used to like rodeos as a kid- I guess I just wanted to see animals. As an adult, I hate them and I won't ever go to one again. I have been at a rodeo where a bucking horse stepped on it's lead rope and instantly snapped its neck. They are yet another way for people to exploit animals for a profit with no regard to the animals themselves.

I don't like rodeos in the least bit. I would not go to one even if they paid to go.

I don't agree with any entertainment using animals that people manipulate to the point of pain to get them to do things. One example being a bucking strap on horses in rodeos. I think a civilized society such as ours should know better.

I think they are cruel to a point. I mean would you want someone on your back kicking spurs into your sides? There is a reason that makes them buck, it hurts obviously.

Rodeos are cruel, especially to calves, and people who climb aboard bulls and broncs are unevolved and immature...I don't care how much prize money's involved. This is not a popular opinion where I live, but so be it. You know how you can spot a former rodeo cowboy? He's permanently bent over and limps. I let rodeo sponsors, including Starbucks, know that I won't buy their products if they continue their sponsorship. This is a minor sacrifice for me, as I love Starbucks coffee -- but there it is.

I dont mind rodeos. These animals are being used for competition which is probably wrong but I don't think it's much different than the people who put their animals in stupid costumes and parade them through hula hoops. Bulls and horses are massive creatures...often used for work much more strenuous than anything these competitions require. There are reasons why these events are legal.
