Q: How do you clean small pet water bottles?

I use a baby bottle brush to clean out my guinea pig bottles. It still hard to clean out the spout thoroughly. Do you know any tricks or shortcuts to clean them?

Add a splash of Clorox to the soak water to disinfect them too.

q-tip.....also, put uncooked rice in the bottle, then really hot water about 1/2 way full, then put the cover back on, shake it hard for like 30 secons, and rince! Fun, effective, safe!

Have you tried using a Q-tip to get inside the spout part? Tip it upside down so the 'ball' goes up to the back and then with a moist Q-tip reach inside and twist to get any residue and then pull out and rinse more water in the opening tipping it back upright to push the water back out. I do this for Lilly (our hamster)'s water bottle and it works. I also make sure I take off the black rubber seal inside the spout part and rinse that area as well before putting it back.

I only use glass water bottles and I put them in the diswasher. I figure the heat from that will kill any germs. Then I rinse them again with soap and hot water to make sure there's no diswasher residue from the dishwasher detergent.

I used the baby bottle bottle brush to clean them too when I had Guinea pigs. I also had extra bottles so when I would switch them out i could leave them to soak a bit.
