Q: How do you clean guinea pig ears?

I always relied on my vet to my guinea pigs' ears. I'd like to try and clean them myself but am not sure how to. Any suggestions?

I've been told by my doctor and my vet not to use q-tips, on either myself or any of the pets, b/c you push wax and any other debris further into the ear canal.

I still use them on myself, but we used a vet-recommended solution in our pets' ears, like Ali G. described, and a little piece of gauze to wipe out any visible wax/dirt. I guess for the sake of fairness I should switch to eardrops for myself!

There is an ear cleaner my vet gave me that is made for kittens. Every month or so, I will put a drop in my piggie's ears and then rub the ear to smooth it in. They absolutely hate this but it keeps their ears clean and free from infection. There are many brands; your vet can recommend one or you can buy it at most vet offices. A bottle will last you forever.
