How do I stop my male dog from marking?

He has one spot in the house that he likes to mark. How can I stop him from doing this?

Hi,
I found that mopping the floor with ODOBAN spray found at walmart in the pet section has helped. or vinegar..If it is carpet there is carpet stain/odor .. He isn't fixed?? My unaltered male had a prostate problem. may be that if it is alot.. I thought he too was marking and being defiant but ended up being that ..Hope this helps ..

If he isn't neutered you might want to think about doing that. My male lifted his leg on everything until I had him neutered and he was 2 when I had it done, it did stop him. However, A great enzyme based stain and odor remover is Nature's Miracle, it really works.

have him neutered if he isn't already. more often than not, having a dog fixed after they start marking does not stop them. it does, however, make them more receptive to being taught not to and much less likely to start again in the future.
you need a black light and an enzymatic cleanser. if the spot isn't 100% clean, its still a nice place for him to go.
look for reasons why he may be choosing that spot. is there someone in particular associated w/it? is it in an area w/access to view another dog? is it close to the door he would go through to get outside?
you need to figure out his bathroom schedule and get him out when he needs to go. every single time.
make sure hes getting enough exercise. when dogs have extra energy, problems occur.
