How do I stop my cat from urinating outside the litter box?

My cat, Sakari, started off using the litter box with no problems. The I got this older cat, Mosi, and Mosi started urinating out side the litter box. This new cat is no longer in the home she had to be put down because she was sick. The Sakari started urinating where Mosi had gone. I have removed everything from my home that Mosi urinated on. It seemed to help but it turned out I was wrong. Now Sakari is doing it in the dirty clothes. A rug on the floor or just in front of the sink. It is not as if she doesn't go in her litter box because she does. She just goes outside it as well. I don't know what else to do and suggestions would be a great help.

I agree, it is a territorial thing when your second cat started doing it. But as far as the first, older cat... I would get the vet to check for any kidney problems. I had a cat who started doing that and it turned out she had bad kidney problems.

And the problem is, once they start peeing somewhere, they will keep going there because they can smell it, even if you clean it up. Try also putting a cat-repellent spray on the areas they like to relive themselves. There are different kinds and some work better than others so I'd research review and ask your vet which one works best.

Hope that helps! Good luck~

I forgot to add: If you happen to catch them in the act, scold them and carry them over to the litterbox and place them in it, as sort of a reinforcement that its unacceptable to do that there, and that the litterbox is the place for such things.

I really can't offer much advice, but I can tell you why. The cats were being territorial. My cats do it too. It....sucks pretty much. I would ask a vet if they have any tips.
