Q: How do I prepare my puppy for obedience school?

My new dog will be going to “puppy kindergarten” before regular and advanced obedience training. How do I prepare?
Pre-K for puppies begins at home.
Aside from the skills the dog (and you) will learn at all levels of obedience training, the real advantage is the opportunity for socialization with others — other dogs and their humans who care enough to give their canines the very best. However, all the distractions (like that adorable Rottie across the room) can make learning difficult.
First classes will be easier if your pup arrives with a few skills under his collar. Start getting him accustomed to wearing a flat collar (not the choking kind!) and a variety of leashes. Try to teach a couple basic commands (“Come” and “Sit” are good for starters). Practice, practice, practice. Make it fun and rewarding.
Okay, ready for the first day of class!
