Q: How do I get the cat to stop scratching my furniture?

March 10, 2009 | By Coopere | 13 answers | Expired: 2016 days ago

She is an indoor cat but too old to have declawed. We have tried spraying water at her but it doesn't seem to work. No one is home with her all day.

You have to keep interesting scratching posts all over the house. Sometimes it helps if you show a cat what to do with the scratching post (pretend you are using it). I know it sounds funny, but it works. There are pecial sticky stripes that you can by at Petsmart. Those are supposed to work.

Scratching posts scattered around...and try putting double sided tape along the areas she's scratching on your furniture. That will deter her.

make sure you havbe plenty of scratching posts and toys. put cat nip on the stuff you want here to scratch, and spray the areas that are no non with a repellant from the pet store.
