try some catnip. It seems to invigorate my cats and make them more playful.

Try some different toys like the wands with feathers on the end. There are lots of different types of wands. My one cat isn't very playful, but he loves when I bring the wand out and drag it on the floor. Just remember to put any wand toys safely away where the cat can't get it when you're done playing with them because of the string and feathers attached. You don't want kitty to eat them. I keep mine in a closed drawer until playtime begins and then put it right back in the drawer when we're done. Good luck and happy playing!

I agree with the catnip idea and also a little change in his environment ie. a kitten, or a small dog may do some good. Make sure he is getting enough sun and a good diet. I know that some cats are just lazy, but persistance will pay off.
