Q: How come my cat wants to sleep on my head?
We went on vacation almost 2 years ago and had to leave the cats with a sitter. Ever since we have been home my female Summer wants to sleep on my pillow. She wants to be as close to my head as possible, sometimes almost smothering me. She is not very friendly during the day to anyone including me. But when it is bedtime, she loves only me!

I don't know for sure,... I would hope it wasn't because she had a bad experience with the cat-sitter; let's assume that wasn't the case. She probably did miss you and wanted to feel close to you and ever since that time it has become a habit. I am sure you know that cats have very different personalities... Of the 2 cats I have, one of them does not like to sleep on the bed and one of them does. At night the one who sleeps on the bed will be more towards my feet or tummy, but if I wake up and my cat sees/knows I am awake (like if I give him a pet or he sees me look at him), he will move closer to my head -- sometimes VERY close and will start purring. I guess I figured this was because he feels closer to me when he is by my head -- it is a good bonding time. Other guesses for Summer would be that she likes the warmth of your head -- perhaps it seems like another kitty,... Maybe your head is like a kitty teddy-bear for her,... :-)
