Q: How can I put 1 of 3 cats on a weight reduction diet?

I started feeding smaller amounts at distinct times during the day. But the one on the diet, Rio, always manages to eat the leftovers of the skinny cat. She also was very obvious in her displeasure of any attempt at limiting the food. I worry about her health.

This is tough to do without separating the cats. One will always finish whatever the others don't eat. It can really be a problem!

I have to agree with feeding them in separate rooms. I had two cats, one with special needs and I had to make him food. In the beginning I was able to feed them both the same thing but as they got older the other cat started gaining weight. I had to separate them when I fed them and took away any extra food when they were done. It was stressful at first but then they adjusted.

I have this same problem...and about all you can do is separate the cats out and keep them eating separately. On the one who eats too much...you can put their food down and watch them eat...when they leave the dish of food, pick it up and don't feed them anymore until later that day. A vet once told me that you should never leave cat food sitting out for the cats to snack all day.

My recommendation is to feed the cats in separate rooms.
Whatever food is left over, throw it away, so that the cat who needs the weight reduction won't find food just lying around.

We have 3 indoor cats, only one of which is on prescription cat food. We feed twice a day and the two cats who get the regular food eat in crates (one stacked on top of the other) and the other eats near them. When they are all done eating we let the two in the crates out and throw away any food that is left behind.

It is hard to feed cats at different times and not let one cat eat what another one is eating, especially if they have had been eating from the same bowl.
We however had to put our youngest cat on a diet and so we just seperated their feeding dishes.
We basically stay right there until he is done eating and then cover up the bowl and put it on the counter.
Seems to be working so far.

When we have an Issue like that we usually just put the Cats in different Crates to eat. They are all in crates at the same time. Maybe you should try that. Good Luck

it is ok to put them all on a light diet, my vet told me I could. just as long as none of your cats are sick or under weight.

It doesn't work too well if you have multiple cats eating different foods.
