My cat Meeka was also abandoned. I took her in as a stray. It's taken a lot of time and patience to get her to trust me. I would say that you just need to have alot of patience. Show her that good things come from you. Feeding is a big way to do this. I agree with one of the suggestions above that you should give out measured out feedings instead of allowing her to graze. This will create a bond because you are the food provider. But also just as equally important is to push her in baby steps. If contact with you freaks her out, then don't try to push yourself onto her too much. Limit the interaction times so that you're walking away before she freaks out on you. You don't want the experiences that she has with you to have a chance to turn negative. Then keep building it up.

After 2 years I've finally gotten Meeka to the point where she will cuddle in bed with me and let me rub her tummy!!! That's a really big deal because I would have gotten swatted at or scratched if I tried to do that when I first took her in!

Good luck! And don't lose hope! Just be patient, but also be consistent in your efforts!

Well on the bright side at least your cat is full of personality, even if it is nastiness! Do you free feed your cat (leave the food out all day)? If so, I would recommend feeding smaller, more frequent meals throughout the day that you provide. In that way, your cat will associate you with the bringer of food and she can only eat when you approve. Also, if your cat is just lounging around and being calm try to sit on the floor as close as your cat will allow without being bothered. Just spend some quiet time with her so she knows you're not always going to try to handle her or come after her. Place treats halfway between you and your cat and see if she eats them but don't make any attempt to pet her. Eventually, you may be able to get her to get her to accept treats very close to you. Just make sure you take small, consistent steps. Don't move too fast and if your cat feels bothered take it back a step. Slow steady progress is better than moving hastily and breaking her trust. Next you can experiment with different toys. I wouldn't recommend leaving all kinds of toys out all the time - chances are she'll get bored since they aren't novel. Instead switch it up frequently and put out 3 or 4 toys at a time. Also, have you ever heard of Victoria Stillwell, the famous dog trainer? I'd highly recommend checking out her book from your local library. Although it's geared toward dogs, you can apply the same principals to all animals. All animals are trainable with patience and consistency. Good luck with your kitty!!!! I'm sure she'll warm up to you.

i honestly dont think there is a true answer ...trust me...i know. my cat, Bella, is the exact same way. shes really mean..everyone is scared of her..lol...even my bf..lol.
ever since i got her (found her abandoned at 5 weeks old) she has been just plain old mean. i took her to the vet one day and i asked the vet and he said..right away.."she was abandoned..wasnt she"..lol...i couldnt belive it..how did he know.. he said that momma cats usually disipline the kittens by tapping their nose with the paw. since bella had no disipline from her mom...she was natrally mean..lol. but, now that she is older now..she is begining to become a little more tolerable of ppl..esp now that we have a puppy, Oscar. it took her a while to get used to him but now she is way more comfortable having him around.

try getting her some toys..bella loves to hide in paper bags..lol. i lay one on its side and once and from behind the bag i scratch at the sides of it...lol..she loves it..she goes in the bag and tries to find where the noise is coming from..she scratches at it..its too cute.

also, she loves the little wands with bouncy things hanging off of it...i have no clue what they are called..lol..sorry. but you can find them at just about every pet store.

i agree with feeding her canned cat food. bella really loves "9 lives Real Tuna Flakes" (not trying to sound like an advertisement..lol..just saying thats what she prefers..lol) whenever i give that to her she immediatelly runs over and rubs on my legs...meow! its the greatest.

try getting her a cat tree..or something to that affect. bella loves hers. she is constantly climbing, sleeping, chillin on it..lol.

above all...just give your kitty space. maybe she is like bella and just wants to love on you...on ONLY her terms..lol. she will come to you when she needs you. maybe its just her demenor to be the way she is. Respect her position and dont try to force her to do things...it wont help the situation.

good luck sweetie! (i feel your pain..lol)

After you have made sure that the cat isn't sick you can start to get it used to playing with you. Try giving it small amounts of food throughout the day. Pet/pickup/gently cuddle the cat just before you feed her. Start with small contacts and work up to longer ones. When you put her down gently lower her until all 4 feet are on the ground (to help increase the trust levels). She should get used to associating you with food and start to warm up a little. But some cats just don't like to cuddle so be prepared

Maybe something is wrong with her physically, something is hurting her that you can't see. But its hurting her, in a way that she can't tell you. Take her to the vet, and let them look her over. If your kitty, checks out okay, then try playing with her as much as you can. My cat's favorite toys are the small mice with the rattle inside of them, and has cat nip on them. But you've got to shake and throw the mice to get your cat to play with you. The other toy my cat loves, is the stick with the feathers on the end of it, try to get the ones that look like real bird feathers. What I do to get my kitty interested in it, is to move it around like a bird and let it land on something you cat can catch it. Or lay it on the floor and move it just slightly, to imitate prey. Let her chase it, and jump up in the air after it. If your kitty is get old, she just might wanna be lift alone for a while. Give her time, and she will come to you for affection. And a warm lap. But before you try all the suggestions I said, take your kitty to the vet.

Hope all is well with your Kitty.

throw her out into the wild for a week and then let her back into the house...then she'll love you if you let her back in!!

lol on a serious note... how about constantly petting her or combing her fur and giving her a lot of affection...or feed her canned food? my cats love me when I do that...up until i give it to them....and then im chopped liver,...lol

good luck! :)
