Bailey has a weight issue & im very worried. I need good calorie-burning exersises, a recomendation for a good diet dog food, and boredom busters because when Bailey gets bored she eats. A lot. Any tips you have on making a small dog lose weight, please help!!!!!!! Oh and how many meals should i feed her & how much each meal?

Try feeding her a quality food, which she'll need less of thanks to the lack of fillers. Wellness Core and Nature's Variety Instinct are ideal, but regular Wellness, Orijen, Nature's Variety Prairie are also great. You'll want to feed her an appropriate amount for a dog 5-10 pounds lighter. Say she weighs 70 but her healthy weight is 50 - you'd feed her the amount you'd feed a 60-65 pound dog first. Each time she meets that goal of 5-10 pounds lost, decrease her amount of food again until she gradually makes it down to her ideal weight.
For exercise, you'll want to walk her about an hour a day, just like any other dog. Toy breeds are about half this, but if she's any bigger than a toy you just aim for an hour. She probably can't handle one long walk right now, so you can do two or three shorter walks before meals. That's really it until she loses weight. You don't want to push her, just exercise her. You can play with her as you normally would around your home and yard, but don't rely on it as exercise.
If Bailey is walked enough, she won't have the extra energy to get bored. There's also nothing wrong with stuffing a Kong with some bite sized pieces of chicken as a snack.

Don't free feed her so she won't have the food bowl to turn to when if she gets bored. Diet dog food typically doesn't work because less calories result in less fuel and a hungry dog. Stick to the premium brands (Jillian mentioned several good ones) and don't overfeed her. And Science Diet is NOT a premium or even good dog food. It's full of fillers. The first ingredient should always be meat, where the first ingredient in Science Diet is corn, which is a cheap grain that often causes allergic reactions. The second ingredient is chicken by-product meal which is a nice a way of saying it's all the junk leftover after the meat has been removed. It's slaughterhouse waste. The animal fat in SD comes from generic sources, which may include euthanized animals. It's high in carbs and low in protein and good fat. Carbs will add weight to your dog. The only reason vets push SD is because they get paid to. Don't buy into the hype. Go to www.dogfoodadvisor.com to find healthy, high-quality foods and feed accordingly. Also, exercise is very important. Daily walks or runs along with plenty of play. Treats should be limited to lean meats like chicken.Make feeding fun and interactive by using a feeding ball. Something like Omega Paw Portion Pacer, Smart Toy, or the Star Mark Everlasting Fun Ball. If she easily gets bored, make sure she gets lots of interaction from you and has a good variety of toys to entertain her. Switch out her toys every couple of months so she doesn't get bored with the same old ones.

Sience Diet is a good one but every dog or cat that I have ever met that is on diet food acts as if they are starving and giving them a bit more doesn't always work I don't really have a chioce with Shorty cause he has so many health problems to begin with this is the only food he can eat with out puking it back up the sience diet. Also you have to watch out for food with corn in it, I would go with what I buy Skitters it's not really a diet food and you can only find it at safeway but she seems to like it and it seems to help her maintain a certain weight I geuss you could switch to this once Bailey has lost enough weight it is Rachel ray nutrish she gets chicken and rice but there is also beef and rice as well as lamb and rice flavors but I would not want to feed my dog a lamb. The other thing that some times works is giving them some dry food and soft food at each meal both being the diet food that is what we use to do for Shorty but the new food he is on only comes in dry food you would just have to make sure the seince diet came in both dry food and soft food. But if you absouletly need to do Diet food I would use Seince Diet and give Bailey both some dry food and some soft food. Dog food and Cat food is something I am good at good luck!
