How big will my kitty get?

My cat Oscar is 5 months old, and to me he seems pretty big already. I was just wondering how long cats keep growing. Is there an average age when they stop? And if he is big now, does that mean he will stay a large cat, or do some cats grow really fast at first and then stop sooner or at least slow down?

Most growth is in the first year but they continue to grow & develop for 1-1/2 to 2 years. Some breeds, such as Maine Coons, will grow for 3-4 years. The most aggressive growth is in the first 6 weeks. Somewhere between 3-6 months they'll begin to lose the "baby fat" & start getting taller & may develop a long & lanky appearance. Then they fill out that new larger frame with muscle & fat. At about a year old they're the equivalent of an adolescent.
