Q: Honestly, how many animals are too many?

we have two dogs, and a bird who live at our house. i want to rescue a dog from the animal shelter, but everyone says two is enough. Our house is comfortable enough for three for sure! What do you think?

I would say whatever you are comfortable with, at one time I had a dog, cat and three hamsters. I was the one that took care of them, and when we lost the three hamsters I felt more comfortable with just the dog and cat. But if you have the money and room you will know your limits.

Having the space, and being able to afford them, and all the animals get along, I see no problem. Just make sure you are within the local ordinances. In some areas there are restrictions as how many dogs you can have in the city limits.

are you kidding i have 5 dogs,2 GSD, sheltie, poodle, shih szu, 2 cats (16 yrs old) 1 bird they all live in the house, the dogs sleep with me. i have a half acre of land fenced in. they go to parks and play with other dogs. i say go for it and help that dog live a good life. i work full time, at hospice (i'm a nurse) live alone so i have no help either, would not change a thing. i'm thinking of getting another GSD (listen to your heart)

Make sure your Shelter does a "meet and greet" so you know your two and hopefully third dog will all get along. Not ot mention three children, my niece has three dogs and a cat....her house is always full of fun ...and life! For for it!

If you have the space and can afford it (and are still able to take care of yourself) then as many animals as you can!

It sounds like you are willing and able so if you can manage it why not. I have many more than 3 dogs and I know plenty of other people who have 4 and 5 dogs or more. And cats besides. They are all happy and well cared for.

I think if you are committed to making it work and wait to find a dog that fits with your lifestyle and family then 3 dogs is not too much.

We have three dogs which is enough but not too much. Go for it!

If you can afford vet bills, food, socialization and training expenses I don't see why you couldn't adopt another animal. My husband would love to adopt a third dog, but we unfortunately do not really even have enough space for a third dog. You can always see about doing a home visit and observing the dynamics and how it might change with the addition of a third dog.
