Luckily my veterinary clinic has a 24 hour emergency pager, which I have had to use twice. They responded instantly with a phone call back both times. Luckily, the vets were able to give me advice over the phone and I did not have to go into the clinic, which probably would have cost and arm and a leg. The nearest 24 hour animal emergency hospitals are 30-45 minutes away, so it's really nice that my vet offers this service.

My vet is awesome. I called him in the middle of the night on a Sunday because I had found a stray that had been beaten & was nearly dead. He met me at his office & treated the kitty, even doing surgery on him, even though he had never seen him before. Plus he didn't charge us extra for a late night, weekend call. I've also called him at 2am when one of our rescues went into respiratory distress. He treated her too & called to check on her every day for weeks after she came home. Every time we've had a sick pet he's called personally to check on them, even if it was a weekend or holiday. When you call his office in the middle of the night, you don't get an answering service, you get him & I'm very thankful for that.
