Q: Has anyone used the alternate E-collars - Soft-E-Collars?
We'll be having our puppy spayed next month and I'm wondering if anyone has any feedback on the newer type Elizabethan collars available now. I'm not sure I'll need a collar at all, but if I need to keep her from licking - just wondering if it is worth trying the softer types instead of the old/hard plastic type. I know the old ones can make some dogs uncomfortable/fearful of them.

Yes, we did use one of the softer new ones for Jules. She had a leg issue and would not leave it alone. I could not put the hard plastic on her, but I found a very sfot alternative at Dr Foster and Smith. It inflated and only went around her neck. WORKED GREAT!!! No cone.

Yes, I like them MUCH better and the dogs are much more comfortable with them. If you can watch the dog, keep it off, but I would highly recommend using it at night. Some dogs will lick while others do not.

The newer collars are great. They are not as cumbersome or in some cases as frightening as the e-collars yet for the most part achieve the same effect by restricting neck movement.
