Q: Has anyone had problems with flea and tick products?

I used the Sergeant's Gold squeeze-on flea and tick product on my dog. Within a couple of hours, she became extremely restless. A little later, she was panting and drooling. I didn't make the connection with the flea product until she started rolling on the floor, trying to scratch the spot where I applied the product. I washed her off, but we still had a rough night. Today she seems better, but still not quite back to normal. I sure wish you could get ahold of a local vet at 1 AM Sunday morning! Has anyone else run into trouble with the flea stuff?

My dog trainer told me never to use that product, or others sold at box stores. The chemicals are harsh and can actually cause death.
Use a professional product such as Interceptor, Advantage, or Hearguard.

The animal hospital that I work at gets calls all the time about this. People use the wrong size, and sometimes even put dog products on their cats! When pet starts to pant, salivate, act anxious, please PLEASE use Dawn dish liquid (regular-not bleach) and use this as a de-contaminating wash. If this doesn't help, get your pet to the vet-may need IV fluids and antibiotics to get better. (also don't use that product again. Most OTC flea/tick products use harsh ingredients, and pets can't tolerate them. Frontline Plus is by far the best product out there. Advantage, Advantix, Promeris, are also good products.

I've worked for vets for 30 years. Did grooming for most of them. The only products most vets recommend is Advantage, Advantix,Frontline and one more new one I can't remember. They all work well with few side affects. It's best to get any flea control from your vet. Also beware of online companies. Some have black market or products from other countries that don't have the same controls we have. Think China.

That's awful about your dog and the reactions it had,and I too think that it's a good idea to get her checked by your Vet..
Not too long ago,Hartz was getting a lot of negative feedback from their Flea and Tick products. A lot of people had major problems of adverse reactions after applying it to their animals.
In truth,I don't know what the outcome of it all has been, but I know that you can google it to learn a lot more.
Hope your pet gets back to normal real soon.

I never have, but i would call or e-mail that company because thats not right, also you should contact your vet as soon as possible and get your dog checked out even if she's fine now just to make sure, and to let the vet know the brand and what happened!
