Q: Ham bone treat issues
August 1, 2009 | By Curlygirl5353 | 4 answers | Expired: 1372 days ago
I recently purchased a Butchers bones pork ham bone from CVS and it made my dog really sick. He was throwing up and had diarrhea for almost 2 days. I read the back of the label and it states to take it away if it splinters. It also has dyes in it to give it a more appealing look. I tried contacting the S&S Products, Inc company that makes the bone but they have not returned my numerous calls. I should have read the label before I gave it to my dog but I stupidly assumed that anything sold as "pet treats" would be safe. Does anyone know anything about this company or has anyone had the same problem with their dog?

Pork has been known to cause seizures and other health problems in dogs, so I would stay away from all pig products. Beef products are ok, except for rawhides...some dogs just can't digest them. Make sure these animal products are made in the USA as China and other countries use chemicals as preservatives.

The only bones my dogs get, other than Milk Bone, are raw marrow bones that I get from the butcher, they have to be given outside or in an area that cane be easily cleaned, they are messy, I give 1 a week, med size.

I have not used any of their products. But if your dog is still sick, I would call your vet and explain what happened. He may need to be seen if he's losing all those fluids.
