Q: Greyhounds
How do you get a greyhound to sit?
Nov 01, 2008
You must be having difficulty with your greyhound. I have not known them to require any different method than any other dog. Lure them into position with a food treat. If that doen't work, try a toy. They're sight hounds and perhaps a toy would work better. Catch you greyhound sitting and say "sit" to give him/her the word association and then reward with a treat or toy reward and praise.

When we rescued our Greyhound, we were told that very few of them will sit. The better muscled they are for running, the less likely they are to sit. You can easily teach them, with treats, to squat with their butt an inch or so from the floor, as that is their natural way of sitting. Mik, our Grey, learned this squat after a few days, but never went all the way to the floor. He also barked only one single time in the four years we had him.

This may be a silly answer, but I would suggest watching "It's Me or the Dog" on Animal Planet. It is difficult to explain how to teach a dog commands through the internet (text only answers). The lady on that show always has effective methods for dealing with animal behavior. You should give it a chance. You won't regret it. ^.^
