Q: Good, Healthy training treats.

September 22, 2008 | By ArayaNexus | 7 answers | Expired: 2186 days ago

Cricket is a new addition to our little menagerie, and we're looking for some good, healthy treats to use for training. Right now we're using her kibble, though she loses interest in them fairly quickly.

Any suggestions/favorites/recipes?

My tainer recommended Natural Balance Lamb or Beef Formula rolls to use with in training my lab, and boy are they great!!! Piper will do just about anything for them. They are actually sold as rolls of petfood that you can feed your dog in addition to or in place of standard wet/dry food. I slice the "sausage" into pieces and then cut each piece into tiny bits - one slice gives you about 8 treats! They're incredibly affordable - only $3 a roll or so - and you can find them at PetCo. Petsmart also has a comparable brand, although I don't remember what it's called. They don't cause stomach upset at all, don't have articifical additives, and every dog I've met LOVES them. Hope this helps! Good luck!!!

We use and my dog loves the vitakraft chocomilk drops. They are small enough that you dont have to worry about giving too much when you are practising the same thing over and over. They have vitamins for you dog, and your dog will love them!

Lots of people including me use carrots. I either cut up a large one into coins or use half a baby carrot. My dogs love'em.
