Q: Foxes

February 5, 2011 | By Dogz37 | 2 answers | Expired: 1288 days ago

Would it be smart do have a sled team of only foxes? And if so would it be a good idea to have Red Foxes, Black Foxes, Arctic Foxes, and Corsac Foxes? I realize that these are wild animals, but so were all hosehold pets, so don't comment if your going to be all 'thats so wrong' because evryone knows that at some point dogs, birds, ferrets, rats, cats, ext. were wild animals that just
happened to live in the same area as hemans and eventually got used to us being in their territory and started living with us to get food easier.

Doubtful. Even though there are those out there who try to domesticate them, foxes are wild animals. They are not domesticated & can't be expected to react as domesticated animals do. It takes a lot of knowledge & experience to help wild animals thrive in captivity & even then their life expectancies are often reduced because they are not in their natural habitat. A fox will never be truly happy in captivity. There are lots of other reasons this isn't a great idea: Owning foxes is illegal in a lot of areas. You have to have a special permit to own exotics. Foxes are destructive. Most vets don't know the first thing about treating a fox & aren't licensed to treat one. Foxes naturally have a large territory & need a lot of room to roam.
