Q: Food Quantity Day vs. Evening

I want to feed my dog ¾ cup of food a day. One feeding will be ¼ cup and the other will be ½ cup. Is there a preference as to which meal should be bigger morning or evening?

This does sound like a small amount of food. unless you have a really great feed, even then. I feed my little 2.5lb yorkie 1/4 cup a day.

If you want to make one bigger look at what the dog likes.
With me my little guy gets Trippet twice a day, and kibble all day (he's only a puppy). I give less trippet at night, but he eats more kibble at night.

Also consider when you play with him or exercise him. I made the mistake of playing with Harley right after he ate in the first week he was home.... wont do that again. I changed his food schedule so that I made sure he digested everything before I play.

my 80 pound boxer mix {who is supposed to be be on a diet} gets about 1 1/2 to 2 cups a day and hasn't even lost an ounce. this is just enough to keep her weight stable w/o her going hungry. my dogs eat meat and rice, but my boxer mix gets a meat/rice/kibble combo. kibble alone often leaves dogs feeling hungry throughout the day b/c it usually contains fillers. corn and wheat will pass through their systems much quicker than real meat will, so it can be hard to say how much is enough.
depending on the food you're feeding, it could be too little - but it could also be just right.
it is best to feed equal amounts two or three times a day. if your dog can eat a full half cup in one sitting, 1/4th will probably leave them hungry. you should depend on your dogs reaction after eating to see if they're hungry. however, dogs are known for being gluttons so this can be misleading. regardless, always feed them more if they're asking, but keep an eye on their weight. within a few weeks you'll know the right amount for your dog. and a tip for getting the weight down if it happens to shoot up - start feeding them 3 smaller meals a day {like my dogs being switched to}. they'll metabolize it faster so it's not sitting in their bellies and putting on the pounds.
sorry for the long response, it was kind of a loaded question after the previous answers!

I agree with keeping it even both feedings, however, i also agree that it doesnt seem like much food. My vet recommended 3/4 to 1 cup food per day for my dog and i tried that and noticed my dog was losing a lot of weight. My dog probably goes through 2 cups a day and shes only 33 lbs

it's usually better to keep them even.. then they don't have issues with eating too much and their bellies are full enough to not be getting into things looking for food because they are hungry.
