Why are flys and gnats more attracted to being in my house in the summer time than any other time of the year?

Summer is the time for flies and gnats. It's when they're most prevalent and active. Summer is also when we humans spend more time going outside. They take advantage of every opening of a door to come in. They're attracted to pet food, things in our trash like food scraps (esp. fruit, veggies, or anything sugary). The other time of year you'll see flies trying to get in homes is when it starts getting cooler. They start seeking out warmer environments and will end up in your warm home.

kelly is correct. at the first hard frost the ones outside die off. that is the only thing i don't mind about winter comming. i guess we should have a good hard frost comming up. but with all the crazy weather who knows. flys will also burrough behind insulation and lay eggs.
