I currently have three fire-bellied toads living together, and yes, they do make noise. Mine sound more like a dog yelping than a dog barking, and it doesn't really bother me. They generally only make noise in the evening right after the aquarium lights go out. If there are people or other pets in the room, they tend to be quiet though, I guess for protection. The only time I hear them is if I am quietly working on my computer for a long period of time and they "forget" that I am here.

A year ago, I only had one fire-bellied toad, and he actually made more noise on his own than my three frogs make together. He also did a lot of jumping up against the aquarium glass over and over. I was pretty sure he was lonely.

It is difficult to impossible to tell male and female frogs apart by sight. I've never been able to. Only the male frogs make noise, and that is the best way to tell them apart. If you happen to get a female frog, she won't make any noise.
