All of the answers you received her will help you. Keep in mind, dog fighting is abusive to dogs -- dogs here are used for entertainment purposes -- people who enjoy this cruel and unconscionable activity are criminals, thugs, barbarians who should be plucked out of society and locked up. This activity of dog fighting has no upside -- the dogs suffer from beginning to end -- they are treated cruelly, made to constantly suffer -- ask yourself, who would you feel if you were forced to undergo this kind of treatment. DOG FIGHTING must be stopped -- there are laws out there protecting dogs -- if you have a moral compass and I am sure you do, you know that the perpetrators have broken many moral laws -- they themselves lack honor, respect, dignity, morality -- they really do belong in prison -- they would do the same to a human if they could get away with it -- trust me.

There are a number of Pit Bull websites which could give you some good info. I would reccomend that you start with www.workingpitbull.com/links. There are links to a number of websites that have info on dog-fighting and BSL.

In addition to watching the Dog Town episode about Vick's dog look at Best Friends Animal Society (where Dog Town is filmed) website or contact them for more information.

I would see if you can watch the Dog Town episode where they took in about 21 of Michael Vick's dogs. It gives a lot of information about what the dogs suffer and the effect it takes on them. But it also talks about how many of them can be rehabilitated and become a family dog, which is contrary to what many people would think. There was a big dog fighting bust in Texas, so you should be able to find some articles on that one too.
I think it would be interesting to talk to officials and find out how much underground dog fighting they think actually takes place. I'll bet its more than we realize.

In addition to what others have said you can also point out the downsides... how it affects dogs (ie: mistreated, abused, usually put down if ever 'saved' b/c it's hard to change them.) Then you can also point out what happens to individuals that participate in these events. Look at Michael Vick. Yahoo.com had an article on him just a few days ago- how he made $12.81 a few months ago in jail and now is filing bankruptcy. He lost everything and so many children looked up to him- he really could've been a better role model.

Instead of just reporting statistics, which I'm not saying isn't important, why don't you make the slant on examining why people engage in this? And also include ideas for stopping it?

You might want to look at the website for the Humane Society of the United States. They have done some extensive work on the Mike Vick case.

The best thing to do is to either contact your local humane society/shelter or you can google it to find out depending on what information your needing. You can contact other shelter's if you need statisics in different areas. Hopefully that will help you write your paper.
