I was wondering if anyone has thrown a birthday party for any of their animals and if you have what did you do as far as the planning the activities and has anyone gone all out and did something big like ordering a cake from a bakery and party decorations mailing off invitations..... well the reason that i ask is because i wanted to throw a party for my dog and wanted to know what was over doing it....

all you have to keep in mind when throwing a party is "what would my dog like?"
some people go overboard thinking they're doing something special for their dog, but put their dogs feelings aside in the haste of it. for instance, if your dog doesn't like to play w/other dogs - only invite people. if your dog is kinda shy around people, only invite a few close friends your dog already trusts.
if you're going to get a cake from a bakery, make sure it's a doggie bakery. a little people cake is alright {like a few bites}, but a whole slice can make them sick - no one wants to get sick on their big day!
for my dogs birthdays, i just make them something they love but don't normally get. oatmeal cookies {NO raisins} for my one dog and a nice cut of meat for the other. b/c dogs can be picky about they like to eat, sometimes this is the safest bet.
also consider taking this party to a park. is your dog more comfortable inside or are they eager to get out and explore? basically, consider what they love and then take it a few steps farther.

*and keep the activities simple. dogs get bored and frustrated, too. putting together some big event can backfire if it goes too far outside of your dogs regular activities.
the best pet parties are the ones where they get to have a day of fun. fun is relative to each dog, so let them show you what they want.

I threw a small party for my two terrier/schnauzer mixes for their first birthday on March 11th. I gave them some toys and dog ice cream which they loved.
