Q: Dry skin on my Dalmatian
My dalmatian is starting to get dry skin on his back. Its not itching him at all. just starting to flake a little. i know i have to be careful about the protein in take. I was thinking about putting an egg in his food. then i was thinking about some oil in his food. Just would like to get some advice.

I give my dogs fish oil every day. Their skin is no longer dry & their coats are soft & shiny too. Its good for pets with allergies, arthritis, & all sorts of health problems. I make sure mine get 20mg/lb of the omega 3, EPA. They don't need added supplementation of omega 6, as its already in the normal diet. You can safely give them fish oil made for humans or you can buy the kind packaged for pets. Just be sure its purified to remove mercury.
Here are some sites with info about fish oil for pets:

I have a Shar-Pei and she has HORRIBLE skin problems. Before you do anything I'd just put in a quick call to you vet. I bet the receptionist will even be able to get the answer for you. Good luck.

In addition to a good diet, Salmon oil is a great source of omega oils which are good for the skin and coat, I have personally used for my dogs the Yummy Chummy Alaskan Salmon oil with great results in as little as a week. Sometimes even changing to a Salmon or fish formula dog food can show good results as well.
