I am not sure about the mulch but usually when dogs have upset stomachs they eat grass.

I've heard of cats eating dead grass when their stomach hurts so they can throw up, but i am not sure what the reason would be with dogs. maybe it is the same thing. You should probably see if the dog food is making him sick after he eats it. Or it could have to do with the scent of the mulch.

Your dog has "Pica", the need to eat non-food items. Just Google "Pica in dogs", you'll get a lot of information about what is is and how to deal with it.

DO NOT use the cocoa mulch! It can be fatal if your dog eats it.

Wonder if there's been a chemical sprayed on the mulch that smells good...I'd try to keep him away

Depending on the mulch it probably isn't bad for them They eat grass for digestion and lack of nutrients in there food I wouldn't worry about the grass and mulch but i would suggest buying a more nutritious dog food
