Q: Does your shelter own a van?
How did you get it? How do you pay for insurance, maintenance & general operation? (This is meant for shelters that must raise their own funds.)

We don't have a van but we have a bus that was donated to us by the school board when they were getting new ones. We had it painted and now use it to transport animals for fundraising purposes and we also used it to help during the Katrina crisis by going to Gulfport, Mississippi and helping pick up animals. We pay for our own diesel and upkeep but we are lucky enough to be associated with the Sheriff's office and they pay the insurance.

We currently dont own a van either. We have only just begun discussion about this too. We are working on building our new shelter this fall so there is no extra money right now. If you could get a donated van the insurance expense should not bee too bad if you stick with liability only.
