She isn't always always on a leash but when we are outside walking or going to some place.....We live in a neighborhood and if my dog gets off her leash she will run, run, run..... and we have to chase after her. We usually get her but I don't want it to happen and she ends up getting lost..... what do I do?

you should try working with your dog in a fenced area and every time she or he comes to you reward it and keep working at it

try lots of leash training, and go back to simple commands like sit, stay, come, heal etc. don't let her off the leash until she understands these commands. then try taking your dog to enclosed parks to see if she'll come back before you get into letting her off the leash in more open areas.

my dogs dont stay on a leash to often. i started to train them by first keeping them on a leash when going for walks and letting them off the leash when we go to parks. I would keep treats on me, so they would stay near because they were attracted to the smell, and then when they stayed close for a certain amount of time i would reward them with a treat. When going to the park i would reward them when they came on command. Its best to only take them to fenced in parks though, or to do it in their yard. but thats what worked for me

If your question is about a safer collar, try a Martingale type. This is a very gentle and safe collar. A slip lead is also very secure.

Consider changing they type of leash you are using if she is getting off of the one you have. Perhaps a harness might be better. Also if she isn't already, consider getting her microchipped in case she does get lost. It won't save her from a car but it might get her home if she's lost her collar and someone finds her.

Keep your dog on the leash is safe, but if you can always try different things to keep him in the yard. You can get an unground electric fence or put up a dog runner.

I keep my dog on a leash when she is out doors, not only becauise it is the law, but for safety. You can learn to manage it better. Your dog should not procede you out the door - a dog can be taught to wait until you invite it through the door way. And as others have said, make it worth its while to come back to you. You can also teach your dog to sit from behind. and wait until you get it back. Sometimes if you sit down on the ground or run way from the dog, it will come to you. good luck

We taught are dog at a early age the come command! I dont know how old your pet is but you may try and teach that command to your pet thay way if your dog gets loose she will come back to you! Always have a treat on you that works well.

I don't let our dogs off leash unless they are in a safe place. It is too easy for them to see something exciting and take off. Better safe than sorry.

My dog is always on a leash when i take her out unless she is in my fenced in yard, which she is free to go in and out as she pleases.
