Q: Does the end justify the means?

Personally, I think not.

I have to ask this, people.

In the short time I've been on this site, trying to earn points for my humane society affiliate I have enjoyed reading other peoples' posts and viewing their photos.

But I am seeing some things that are questionable in terms of fair play. I'm disappointed, to say the least.

Can't we all play by the rules and treat each other respectfully?

Personally, I would rather lose and know I gave it my best, playing fairly, than win unfairly, having sacrificed my principles. In my worldview, I would then not be a winner, but a loser, even if it was for a good cause.

I'm curious about this whole thing. I'm new to zootoo and the shelter and rescue I listed aren't in contention for winning the contest so any points I get with this answer don't matter. When I signed up, I knew nothing about the contest. Is this the first contest that has been held by zootoo? I noticed that someone had asked whether they can switch their shelter affiliation. Does that mean on the last days we will be seeing people moving their points to other shelters to move them up on the list? This contest is a dream come true for some lucky shelter, but maybe it would have been better to have multiple shelters benefit so it wouldn't be so "dog eat dog". I think this is a great site and a useful tool to share ideas, get questions answered and meet some nice people but it's pretty sad seeing so much negativity. How about using some question and answer space to give ideas to improve the next contest to eliminate the things that people feel are unfair.

Well, if we're going to be judgmental, I'd have to say this question isn't a very good one because you don't specify what it is that folks are doing wrong in your opinion. Ha Ha!! Don't take this personal, just playing off your comment. The whole point is to get $ for the animals. If that means I need to post a boring video or write a journal entry that others think is boring, so be it! Its for my shelter and I don't think its asking very much! Hope it doesn't bother you that I will collect points now for answering your question!

What exactly are you saying people do when not playing fair? Downloading a video...is just that...there are no rules that state it has to a certain way. I think they have set the rules and you can get the points --it all helps animals and that is the Point!

Your right some people don't play fair unfortantly, but atleast some animal shelters are getting what they need, and zootoo is getting the message out that animal shelters need help. When there is good there is always someone trying to turn it into bad. We just have to be an example and do the right things even when some one is doing wrong.

I think people that are on this site are here for the same reason. "TO HELP ANIMALS" So what if people can't spell right so what if there not the best writers in the world so what if there videos are not up to everyones standered or their pitcures are not the best. The point is they are trying. I hate to say it but I'm not the best speller in the world or a very good writer. But I do try. I think as long as everyone is nice to one another & as long as you are not lieing about what you are writeing than it's all fair game. Just my personal opinion!

I was sort of wondering the same thing. I've seen videos of cats laying in the sun. I guess you get more "points" for a video than a still, but I sure don't want to spend a minute and a half watching a cat lay there. But there are a lot of fun, creative videos to enjoy. Not everyone is an author and I've realized just how many people don't know how to spell or even seem to try. But when I come across a journal entry or review that irritates me I just figure they are doing it for the points and not for the enjoyment of writing so I move on. However, there are a lot of GREAT things on this site and I'm enjoying the whole experience regardless of the outcome. I hope you do too.

I not really sure what the "rules" are. Does the amount of points your organization receive depend on how many points you have?
Also I understand the concept you are asking. I agree that "fair play" should be used. But regardless of where the makeover money is going isn't the important thing that a shelter is getting fixed to help the animals.

I think your thinking is right. I wonder,am I playing fairly by photo shots of other peoples pets. I only have one. Do you think that is fair? What rules are being broken?

So what are the rules? Did I miss somewhere that only the intelligent are allowed to make posts? Who is going to be the "fairness" police?
