I have read peoples blogs saying that the ASPCA kills animals. I no organizations like PETA and HSUS kill animals, but not ASPCA. I read a story about a pit bull that had been euthanized by the ASPCA for agression issues. Well, i read a little bit more and it turns out, after weeks of training, the dog attacked -twice- and then was put down. The ASPCA only did this for the sake of any possible owners safety. Unlike PETA and HSUS, the ASPCA only euthanizes animals that hve no hope of a home, for agression issues.

Yes, Oreo, the pit bull you're referring to, "might" have shown aggression...after being abused & thrown off a 6 story building who wouldn't have a few issues? The thing was that there was a wonderful sanctuary in New York with experience with these kinds of dogs ready & willing to take her, but Ed Ayers & the ASPCA chose to kill her rather than let her live out her life in a sanctuary with people willing to work with her. (petsalive.com/blog/2009/11/14/failing-oreo/) Following the uproar over that fiasco, New York State legislators, introduced a bill to prevent animals from being killed by shelters when there is a lifesaving alternative offered by rescue groups. ASPCA fought that bill tooth & nail & killed it so that kill shelters didn't have to offer their animals life over death. One of the worst shelter in the country is in New York right down the street from the ASPCA headquarters. Animals are left to languish in their own filth, the people in charge refuse to work with rescues who are trying to tag animals & save them, & then the poor animals are killed never knowing people want to save them. ASPCA has refused over & over to intervene. They see nothing wrong with the way things are run, although I have an email from my NY contacts showing pictures of dead kittens covered in litter & dogs cringing in corners because their cages are full of poop. All had rescues trying to save them & both are dead. ASPCA did nothing to save these animals that were within walking distance from them. ASPCA backed & promoted Dorinda Pulliam as shelter director in Austin when they were trying so hard to go no-kill. While she worked there, she killed hundreds of thousands of animals even though they had empty cages, refused to work with rescue. She refused to do off-site adoptions & she didn't allow anyone to step in & foster kittens & puppies, deciding they were better off dead than fostered. Yet, ASPCA fought to keep her in power while the city fought to go no-kill. While Austin fought to go no-kill, their biggest adversaries were ASPCA & HSUS. My contacts in Austin battled them for months. ASPCA has never been no-kill. They won't advertise that they kill animals, but I doubt you find it advertised that they are either.
