Q: Does anyone know why cats love catnip, but other animals it doesn't seem to affect?

Well, when I say, "bye bye" or "treat", to my dogs, it produces the same effect as catnip on a cat, lol.

Interestingly enough the "susceptibility" to catnip is genetic. So there are some cats from whom catnip does nothing and others that it gets 'high as the proverbial kite'! To my knowledge no other animals besides the felines have the receptors that make them sensitive to catnip.

I wish my cat enjoyed catnip. So far, fresh or dried, all 3 cats I've owned couldn't care less :<
If anything, my dog has been more interested. I suppose it could be something about different animals ability to smell the chemicals.

cats can smell the chemicals in the catnip. I don't think there is anything for dogs
