Q: Does anyone know why cats "knead?"

My cat kneads the blankets a lot. He almost gets obsessive about it. Last night he was doing it on my husband's feet and when my husband moved, he started howling, almost aggressively. Just wondering if anyone knew why they did this and if it's normal?!

It means they are happy and content. Our cats do the same thing, most of the time just before they are ready to take a nap or go to bed for the night. He was Probably very happy and content not meaning to be aggressive, your husband was disturbing his happiness when he moved.

I've always heard that cats kneeding or sucking on blankets is a throwback to kittenhood. They kneed their mother to express milk and sometimes if they are taken away from their mothers too early they can continue kneeding and sucking behaviors. But it also can mean they are contented too. Not sure why the howling happened. Maybe he was disturbed by the movement.

I think it means they are happy. Our kitty's still do it but it could be because they are hungry too. They do this when they drink milk from mama.
