Q: Does anyone know if baby turtles shells are supposed to be soft until they get older?
My boyfriend and I have a red eared slider, and hes maybe a little bit over an inch and the sides of his shell are soft, we are givinh him vitamin c and he has a UV light, and we are waiting to see if it will get harder...

No, they are not supposed to be soft. They are lacking vital dietary supplements. Are you supplementing calcium? You say they have a UVB light. How large is the tank?
How old are the turtles? I have had RES since hatchlings and their shells were never soft enough to warrant worry. They were certainly never as soft like the soft spot on a baby's head, but they aren't nearly as hard as a land tortoise's shell either.
Use your best judgment, do research and ask experts on reptile forums or reptile websites/groups to make sure you are providing adequate care for it, and also I HIGHLY recommend a visit to the vet to ensure it is in good health, because even the most well-taken care of animals may fall sick sometimes.
