Does anyone have experience with food allergies in their dogs?

Does anyone have experience with food allergies in their dogs? Baxter has always seemed to have stomach problems - vomiting in the middle of the night a couple of times a week, which has progressed to vomiting during the day and night. Sometimes it's got food in it, sometimes it's just foamy bile. Our vet put him on Presctiption diet I/D for a couple of months, but it isn't really helping. We went back today and she switched him to a food trial of D/D for allergies. We also got some medicine to help coat his stomach before meals, and an anti-nausea medicine as well.

You may want to consider some lab work. Vets can do allergy testing and hopefully let you know exactly what your dog is allergic to. I do believe it can be rather costly depending on how in depth you need to go. A conversation with your vet on the possibility may be a good idea as I seems that things are not getting better. I assume your vet has also considered other gastro problems besides allergies as well. Good luck.

All I know is that my uncle's golden retrevier Daisy seems to have food allergies and is on hypoallergenic food and just keeps on getting worse and worse. My advice is go to the vet also make sure you are feeding the dog enough and Daisy ended up having an ear infection so ask about that being a possibility when you take your dog to the vet also ask about a twisted stomach which is common in big dogs and medium sized dogs.

My parents' golden retriever is completely gluten intolerant. We think it developed when the dog food was made tainted gluten from China a year or two ago. She's completely fine as long as she doesn't have any food with wheat gluten. She always had a delicate stomach (she's gotten carsick since she was a puppy). Maybe changing his diet to not include wheat will help? Good luck!
