Q: Does anyone have a groomer they can recommend for Bathing a pit bull?
My dog has allergies, and can smell pretty bad when they are in full swing. My sister is coming to visit next weekend, and I would like to have him professionally cleaned so I know he will smell ok. We had a bad experience at a groomer in my neighborhood (Brookline), so I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for a good groomer, that is Pit bull friendly. Thanks!

What kind of allergies does your dog have? If its a skin condition I would only bathe the dog in hypoallergenic shampoo FIRST (this gets the dirt off) then apply a veterinary medicated shampoo on him-have your vet issue one that will work best for your dog.
I would also discuss with your vet a dietary adjustment if you haven't already...sometimes a change in diet can clear up any allergies and not make the dog so stinky.
When choosing a groomer, I would ask right out if they groom pit bulls. Sad, I know, but a lot of groomers are breed-biased as well.

crazy as it sounds, the best groomer experiences I've had were almost always with Petco. Maybe it's just the local one in Illinois is exceptional, but they may be worth looking into. I'm with JerZgirl, too-- make sure to ask outright if they work with pitbulls. Best of luck!
