We are in the process of meeting and adopting a mix. This is a ver unusual breed to me. I would love to see if anyoneout there has a mature picture. Just to get an idea on size and temperment

beagles are super high energy
very prey driven and needs tons of exercise and constant and consistent training...and a lab oh my do they love to be on the go...and size...that depends does it more resemble the beagle which is a smaller dog compact with shorter legs...or is it more like a lab around 80 pounds and big and slobbery! who tend to take forever to mature... what has the shelter told you about this pup?
are you aware that all dogs temperaments are different just as peoples.....so asking a general question is not really a good idea...i've had hunting beagles! would stop on a dime with a command, would track a deer for miles without stopping! i've met fat lazy spoiled like a child obnoxious ones who ruled their owners homes and ones so messed up in the head from the owners inability to deal with a dog that they became aggressive to the point of euthanizing them...i've seen the same in labs...some so laid back and calm and others so off the wall you couldn't stand to be around them ...so it is best maybe that you really consider your plan to adopt a shelter dog carefully.... do you have any knowledge of the amount of care and training any dog needs? are you prepared to work with this animal through the stress and trauma it has endured through the shelter and before....i'd think you would be better off to be spending time with this animal at the shelter...lots of time...offer to take it for a walk and play with it every day!...don't take the shelter staff at face value...of course they will tell you it's wonderful and friendly...try to find out it's history?, is it a puppy? or has it lived for years and has been neglected or abused ...then this in itself is a huge red flag for you...be prepared to have to employ a professional trainer and to take this animal to obedience classes regularly!! do you like to exercise?....i mean like walk for hours or hike...or participate in a sport with the dog....beagles were bred to hunt! to hunt and chase rabbits and deer...they have incredible stamina...and if left at home for hours on end alone and not properly trained and exercised they will become difficult in their behavior...they will howl and cry...
they howl for long long periods of time if not socialized and kept mentally and physically fit....same for labs! they were bred with incredible stamina and were bred to retrieve game in the field... Labs are high energy and need mental and physical stimulation also! i hope you will consider this dog more seriously than a general question about temperament and size....you could be getting into something you are not prepared for...and then what of the dog you have meant to rescue!!? If this dog is sad looking and stays to the back of its enclosure do not let your heart over rule your head, this type of animal will be very difficult to deal with .... and if handled incorrectly with lots of love and affection and little else...it can become a liability for you...most likely this dog regardless of it's breed mix has had no real training and is stressed and anxious ...no longer trusts humans and is wary or suspicious of everyday sights and sounds! is it pushy and jumpy and overly friendly? does it jump on the shelter cage door and bark? then this dog too will need specail attention given to it's handling and training...it's not just as easy as saying oh what a cute sad little pup i'll take him home and love him...if he's the right size and temperament! choose wisely! once yo take it home it's yours good or bad!!

You can go on Petfinder and type in Beagle or Lab. You will see some. They usually look like shorter longer eared Labs. Beagles and Labs have a lot of energy and need things to do. Every Beagle I have had was very strong headed.
