Q: Does anyone else's animal open doors or turn lights on/off?

I have had four animals (three cats, one dog) in my life who have known how to open doors, two of which hated having any door shut so they make sure they are all open. Tap even figured out the method for turning door knobs (we have handles on most of our doors because he will pound on any door that is closed until it is opened). Isis and my mom's golden lab/german shep mix Ford would only open the door if they were locked in a room.
When I was growing up, my cat George would get me into trouble with my father for leaving lights on. I tried to convince my dad it was the cat, but he didn't believe me until he was in the basement and the cat kept turning the lights off on him.

Does anyone else's animal do this, or was something in the water of my house?

Haven't ever had any animals that can turn the knobs to open doors, or turn on and on the lights--my dog can only swing the door open with his nose if it is left slightly ajar. HA!! We thought that was pretty smart.

My cat has figured out how to open doors. He can't open ones with door knobs, but can if they have different types of handles. If he can't get into a room he wants to, he'll lay outside the door and wiggle his paws and legs underneath.

I know of four dogs who love to open doors. One of dogs actually locked us out of our airplane hanger when she pushed on the lever handle to open the door and hit the lock button by accident.

yes we had a cat who would open the doors in our home. He would stand on his hind leggs and turn the knob until he opened the door. we watched him do it.

My cat is a master at opening cabinet doors - kitchen, laundry room, bathroom - it doesn't matter where, he can open them!

If there's a way to open a door, my gray long haired cat, Angie will find it. She hates it when my husband goes into his home office and closes the door on her. If you don't close it tight, she is guaranteed to get it open

all of my animals seem to open doors. The most favorite one is the bathroom. If giving the chance they will just bust right in no questions asked. I have a cat that loves to hide in any cupboard he can (remind you he is 25+ pounds and thinks that he can fit into anything. I have even found my animals wedged between the door and the screen door because they are faster then I think.

My cats can open a door, if it is partially cracked open by using their paws and than their head to nudge it open. My older cat has opened a closed door by standing and hitting the doorknob with his paws.

My ferrets can open my kitchen cupboards. They lay on their sides and use their front feet to pry open the cupboard. Then they walk right in. A couple of the cats have been paying attention, as they now use their front paws to open the cupboards too.
